Its hard to believe so much time has passed since I first started designing Passions in March of 2003! I still love going to work every day and working with all the wonderful actors, my crew, and creating all sorts of wonderful costumes.

Earlier this year I got to create the costumes for a fantasy segment based on the films from "Bollywood", those incredibly bright and entertaining musical films so popular in India. The choreographer put me in contact with a store that imports Indian fashions , and through them I was able to select colors and designs for my three principle actors, which were then custom-made for Passions in India and couriered to us in time to shoot the sequence. I was thrilled with the results, as were the actors!

Later this spring I heard that we were having a mermaid on the show! You can't just march down to the mall to buy a mermaid tail, so I designed the tail and it was made at a local costume shop. We actually have two, one that can get wet, and one that mostly stays dry. Since the actress cannot walk once she is in the tail, she has to be shuttled from the make-up rooms to the stage on a gurney, and then lifted into the pool!

Tabitha (Juliet Mills) continues to be fun to dress. I read in the script that she was at the beach "in beach attire", so I thought that, "what would a witch hundreds of years old wear to the beach, along with her little witchling, Endora?" Hence the outfits reminiscent of turn-of-the-century bathing suits! In another sequence she shows up at a baseball game all in white, only to turn herself into an umpire at the 1919 World Series game.

There have been some other interesting challenges pertaining to all the stunts that have happened on the show. In our Rome story line both Fancy and Theresa show up at the Art Gallery Gala in full evening attire. Only trouble is, later Fancy rides on the back of Luis' Vespa, chasing after Beth, and Theresa climbs scaffolding, chasing after J.T. I solved this dilemma by creating a gown for Fancy that has a culotte style split skirt, and for Theresa by creating two long side slits with pants underneath.

I have also been involved in developing the "Crane Couture" clothing line that Fancy Crane has been designing, and which is available for the fans to purchase. The spring summer line was a great success and completely sold out. Check it out at www.nbc.com/Passions/crane_couture and keep checking back for hot new additions.

Also check out the Passions website at www.nbc.com/nbc/Passions/wardrobe. There's lots of cool information and photos of the wardrobe, plus shopping details for many of the items the characters are wearing. Click on the link “Just seen on Passions” to be taken to where you can order the exact same items.

Also, for those of you living or visiting Los Angeles, wardrobe worn on Passions and no longer being used on the show is available for you to buy at the Universal Studio Store on the Universal Studios Citywalk.
